Dear Janette,
Let me answer from another perspective. Rather than give specific
advice on a research project on drawing, I'd like to share three
useful resources on how to do a research project.
This will be especially helpful to you in deciding what kind of
research project interests you, locating the project, and finding out
how to conduct it.
The first book will introduce you to the craft of research. How do we
conduct research? Why? What issues must we consider?
Booth, Wayne C., Gregory G. Colomb, and Joseph M. Williams. 1995. The
Craft of Research. Chicago: University of Chicago Press.
The second book will introduce you to the range of research methods
you might choose among -- and the art ofg comparative research
methodology, the range of issues to consider when choosing among
methods.
Kumar, Ranjit. 1999. Research Methodology. A step-by-step guide for
beginners. Thousand Oaks, California: Sage Publications.
Finally, once you have your project in mind, you'll want to know how
search the literature to find what has already been done. This will
provide you with tools, past experience of others, specific
information. It may also allow you to build on or re-use appropriate
methods, to replicate or extend a project that already works with the
kind of research you want to do. Or a search may tell you that what
you want to do has been done to death or may not be worth doing --
leaving you to choose another topic. You may even discover that
you've identified an important gap in the literature, giving you a
project of particular value to the field. You don't know which of
these is the case until you search.
Hart, Chris. 1998. Doing a Literature Search. A Comprehensive Guide
for the Social Sciences. London: Sage Publications.
Hope these help.
Best regards,
Ken
