L.S.

The author of this quoted book is Harold S. Kushner: 'When bad things happen
to good people'. (1981; Schocken Books, New York; in the Netherlands
i.s.b.n. 90 259 4239 3).Kushner is indeed a rabby from the Temple Israel in
Natick, Massachusetts; and indeed the book is well written and wonderfull
(is that, because of the autor has experienced a very deep sorrow at
himself, because of he lost of his own child?!!!)

Good luck

John Jacobs
The Netherlands, Tilburg.

Christopher,

I cannot get on to the site of the Telegraph (co.uk) paper at the moment but
I remember an excellent article which appeared either in the Friday 7th or
Saturday 8th January issue.

What I chiefly remember is that it quoted from "Why bad things happen to
good people" (author a rabbi, I believe, but I forget his name <blush>) to
the effect that God is not in the earthquake, but in how we react to it.

If I can find a copy or access the site I will let you know.

Best wishes

Jane

Dear Colleagues

I am currently writing a small piece on the recent Tsunami disaster,
disability and whether or not God has got anything to do with it! This is
particularly in light of some rather fundamentalist comments that have
emerged in certain parts of the Christian world as well as a couple of other
religions. If you are aware of any specific commentary that has been
provided with regard to this being God's wrath or something similar if you
could point me in the general direction I would be enormously grateful for
any reference.

Thanks in anticipation

Christopher
