It is long and comprehensive. Dare I admit that it was also interesting?
It did miss things like Argentina being approved for data transfer and
Hungary now being EEA so presumably no longer requiring its special status,
though I expect that will be picked up in the consultation period.
The part that interests me over is wondering how one decides that "this
information is an archive" and may thus be held indefinitely?

Subject: data protection code of practice for records managers
and archivists - revised draft issued for comment
(Apologies to those who subscribe to both lists and hence receive this email
twice.)
A draft code of practice for records managers and archivists under section
51(4) of the Data Protection Act is out for consultation on the Society of
Archivists website:
http://www.archives.org.uk/about/revisedcodeofpractice.html
The intention is to send it to the Information Commissioner's Office
(ICO) at the end of the year, subject of course to the responses to this
consultation and the extent to which they indicate records managers and
archivists subscribe to its provisions.
This is version 3 of the draft Code. Version 2 was sent to ICO in 2002 and
the present revision results from the comments made on that version,
together with the effect of the FOI Acts and developments since 2002, for
example in relation to data sharing. The draft code was originally produced
as a collaborative effort by a joint working party of the then Public Record
Office, the Society of Archivists and the Records Management Society.
The deadline for comments is Friday 11 November. Comments and suggestions
should be sent to me at the email address below please.
