Researchers in Human–Computer Interaction (two posts)
£20,509- £25,375
Applications are invited for two posts to work closely together in a
European FP6 area of novel user interface technologies in the field of
Air Traffic Control.
You will work within the AD4 Virtual Airspace Management Project in the
Interaction Design Centre, based initially at the University’s Trent
Park campus in north London.
The Middlesex component of the work will involve studying how existing
air traffic control work is carriedout and formulating design concepts
for how 3D virtual reality-type technologies may be deployed to support
ATC work. The 10 member consortium will develop a prototype system that
will then be evaluated.
For the Researcher HCI - Human Factors (ref COM161T), you should have a
relevant higher degree or equivalent research experience, such as in
psychology, cognitive engineering or computer science. Expertise in
conducting field studies of work practice is desirable.
For the Researcher HCI - Computing(ref COM162T), you should have
experience in Human–Computer Interaction and software development. A
higher degree or equivalent research related to computing science, HCI
or cognitive engineering is essential. Knowledge of programming in an
object-oriented language is desirable.
For both posts an interest in Air Traffic Control or other complex
safety critical systems is desirable, as is experience in user
interface design, information visualisation and computer supported
co-operative work. For an informal discussion about these posts please
