Not really, its only implication in terms of hardware specification is
that it is not allowed to reorder the components. The reason presumably
had something to do with sequence association. Padding is still
allowed. BTW, the gcc struct I used is:
struct point2D
{
int screen;
float x, y;
struct point2D *next;
};
It seems gcc chose to align the pointer on a 64-bit boundary.
