Some years ago I did some comparisons between several FFT packages. My
programs perform a lot of 2D FFT's. The performance depends on the
processor/compiler combination. On most platforms FFTW is faster than
fftpack, but I found that on our AIX system fftpack was the fastest FFT
implementation to perform our work.
