Here's an example quoted from "Control Data 6000 Series Chippewa
Operating System Fortran Reference Manual" (p. 5-11), dated May 1966
(found as cdc/6x00/chippewa/60132700A_ChippewaFtn_May66.pdf
thanks to www.bitsavers.org):
DATA ( (GIB(I),I=1,10)=1.,2.,3.,7(4.32) )
This is an alternate form of the DATA statement apparently
supported on early CDC systems (I don't really know the
history, I wasn't even born at the time). With surrounding
parentheses and equal sign for "assignment", it has a form
somewhat closer to the PARAMETER statement that will appear
later in time. Overall you can almost imagine an early
suggestion of array constructors and array section assignments,
complete with the repeat notation "7(4.32)"!
I think I saw something similar recently :-)
