Dear Colleagues

I am writing to ask for your co-operation in contributing to our pilot
research into e-learning. The project is being managed by Cumbria
Institute of the Arts for the Art Design Media Subject Centre of the
Higher Education Academy, and further details are provided in the next
section of this e-mail.

We very much hope you are willing to take part. All you need to do is
to click on the link provided and you will be taken directly to the
survey. It will take you about 6 minutes to complete, and when you
signal you are done it will send the information to us automatically.

The Art Design Media Subject Centre and the project research team
extends sincere thanks in anticipation of your contribution.

Dr. Cheri Logan
Project Manager
Distributed e-learning in Art, Design and Media Research Project

Survey into distributed e-learning in art, design and media

Purpose of the study

I am pleased to invite you to participate in the above survey, which is
part of a research initiative currently being sponsored by the ADM-HEA.
The project is a large-scale national inquiry into the use of new
technologies in these subject areas, and we hope the research will
illuminate the innovations, challenges and
potential offered to the sector by the rapidly changing context in
which our practice occurs.

This survey is the widest-ranging of the research strategies that will
be used in the project, and is aimed at finding out about the contexts,
resources and ideas that underpin learning. Crucial to the success of
the study is the inclusion of the voices and experiences of those who
support learning and teaching on a daily basis. The insights that you
can offer are therefore very significant to us, and we hope that you
will agree to take part. In this way we hope to be able to represent
the interests of people like you, and of your students, in our final
reports and
recommendations.

How to take part in the survey

Please click the following link to start the survey:

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=830311467865

If the above link is unclickable then please copy it and paste it to
the address bar of your internet browser. It will take approximately 6
minutes to complete the survey. You will be able to move between pages
and edit your answers using the 'Previous' and 'Next' buttons located
on the bottom of each page until you click the 'Done' button on the
last page.

If you have to leave the survey in the middle for any reason, please
click the above link in this email again and you will be taken back to
the point you left off. After completing the survey once, you will not
be able to do the survey again, however you will be able to edit your
answers.

Ethics and conduct of the research

The project is committed to honouring procedures outlined in the British
Educational Research Association's protocols for ethical conduct of
research projects. We therefore seek your informed consent for use of
information that is collected in the survey, and will assume that your
participation constitutes agreement to ethical use being made of the
data that you provide. We guarantee that the data will not be put to
further use (i.e. beyond the bounds of the current study) without the
consent of respondents, and that it will be securely held (for access
only by members of the immediate research team and its administrators).
It is likely that the overall findings of the study will enter the
public domain, but we
will not identify any individuals in reporting on the research and
undertake to preserve the anonymity of respondents.

Thank you for taking part.
