The Digital Arts Division within the School of Art at Bowling Green State University is seeking
artists working in digital, electronic, and interactive media as applicants for the MFA Degree
Program. Digital Arts Graduate students receive 100% tuition waivers and Graduate Assistantships
in Teaching and/or in Research.
The Digital Arts Division, initiated in 1988, is an established interdisciplinary studio art
program consisting of four full-time and one visiting faculty. The program addresses a range of
activities, including various forms of interactive media, 2d and 3d animation, 3d modeling,
digital video, net art, virtual environments, digital imaging, gaming, physical computing, hybrid
media, and theory. Graduate students typically work at very high conceptual and/or technical
levels in the development of independent thesis projects that address issues related to new media
and digital production.
The Digital Arts Laboratory in the School of Art includes a PC lab with 24 Dell Precision dual 300
mhz xeons, 2 gb of RAM, Nividia Quadro FX2000 graphics cards, and 21 inch LCD displays; a MAC lab
with 22 G4 PowerMacs with dual 800mhz processors, 1 gb of RAM, and 17 inch LCD displays; an 8 seat
Media100s non-linear video-editing lab; a passive stereo 6 x 9 virtual reality projection wall
with surround-sound stereo driven by a 3 cpu windows cluster (GEOWALL);and film, flat-bed
scanners, digital cameras, camcorders, HMD,and cd/dvd burners.
Graduate students in the School of Art at Bowling Green State University have access to high-end
equipment within the university, and through research partnerships with other institutions. The
FLAAR Digital Imaging Resource Center at BGSU tests and uses a variety of wide format printers,
high resolution scanners, and rapid-prototyping technologies. A partnership with The New Media
Center and the Medical College of Ohio offers Digital Arts graduates access to state of the art
audio and video production and post-production studios, live motion capture, force feedback
systems, and 3d scanning technologies.
Accepted candidates can pursue the Interdisciplinary Master's Degree option within the Graduate
College by petitioning to combine at least two different degree areas. This offers candidates the
unique opportunity to combine work in Digital Arts with, for example, Computer Science, Geology,
Chemistry,
Theatre, Popular Culture, or Music.
