In the course of discussing Simon deDeo's Prynne review, I found myself
writing this:
"I once read a claim that Prynne in some of the White Stones poems was
attacking the moral coercion of environmentalism.
There is inevitably a certain minor amount of crossover in the UK between
p-a and Greenie - e.g. deriving from a hippie/non-mainstream connection in
the late sixties. Chris Torrance comes to mind straight away, but there's
others."
This was vague, of course. The dark mention of "others" stood in for
various names that I couldn't for the moment pin down.
It occurred to me that here was the place to ask. Can you think of other
UK non-mainstream writers who are engaged in some way with
environmentalist, ecological, Green politics, conservation, or are rural
travellers or labourers, or have some other less-labellable but intense
involvement with nature? I appreciate that this question in its turn begs
a lot of other questions. But I expect you get the idea of what I'm
asking.
Thanks for any info
Michael
