Has anyone seen this before? Our system is BB6.3.1.477, Learning System &
Community.
A number of our users are reporting problems with links in their courses.
The links are to other documents (Word, Powerpoint, web pages, Coursegenie
packages, etc) elsewhere in the same course. The addresses for the links
are correct, because they are tested when entered and work without any
problem. Next time you go in however, you can get a 403 error - access
prohibited. The really strange thing however is that the links that give
this error today can be OK tomorrow (or even later today), but other links
that were OK will then give the error.
We have also found that extra characters seem to appear in the file path
of some items saved in Blackboard. For example an item saved in a course
folder will normally have an address like:
http://bb6.dundeecollege.ac.uk/courses/1/tp2/content/_12057_1/dir_elearning
2.zip/frame.htm.
However, some will appear with an address like:
http://bb6.dundeecollege.ac.uk/@@2e481996b98728ad5b888ca56cf10d54/courses/1
/tp2/content/_12062_1/Blackboard_6_Conversion_Course.doc
Whether this is related to the first problem, I don't know, but the extra
characters that appear between ...ac.uk/ and /courses... seem to come
form nowhere. If you take these characters out of the path the link will
still work!
We have logged this with BB as an issue. The response was to check
permissions on folders, etc. Our network manager doesn't think this is
the problem, because the error seems to switch on and off at random. If
it was a permissions issue, surely you would not get access to the
resource at all? The problem seems to happen with all types of account -
student, staff, system admin, and both within the college and from users'
homes.
If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be very grateful.
Thanks
Peter Gilmartin
