Thanks for this Gerald...most useful, and thanks for the offer of help.
Hope everything is going well with you. I did mean to get in touch about
sharing some information/expertise on SQL queries to the BB database at some
stage but have not managed to find the time yet....

Best wishes

Neil

Neil,

I'd say that there are a number of issues. The Content System doesn't take up a
lot of space as an application (about half a gig, roughly) but you do have to
plan how big your disk quotas are going to be for
users/courses/library/institution and have enough drive space accordingly. We
are still at an early stage with it but are planning to do some staff training,
as the concept of sharing content can be quite alien to some staff.

We found that introducing the Community Portal required us to do some staff
development as our existing Bb users didn't seem to be aware of the new pages,
services, modules etc that we provided. Once you get going with the portal it
does generate more Blackboard activity but our existing server space coped ok.
If you are going to give module admin rights out to various university
departments etc. then you might need to provide some training for that.

Have a look at the Bb Academic Suite Hardware Sizing Guide (on Behind the
Blackboard). I found the table on page 17 'Sizing the Bb Content System Storage
Needs' to be useful.

Let me know if you have any specific questions about our installation here.

Gerard.

Does anyone have any views/data on whether there is a requirement for more
resource (back end/front end/ training etc.) to manage all three BB products
compared to just the learning system?
