Presumably we want something a cross-platform as possible? I like AoI
precisely because it does NOT require OpenGL. Ideally the actual
operating software of the device would run off anything connected to the
other end of a serial port, be it a quad-CPU graphics workstation or a
Palm Pilot!
I guess there just needs to be a distinction between the modelling
software and the device driver.
