Looking through the BBC list, the Crystal Palace example is, according to Steve
Vogel, a myth. Paxton merely used the leaves of the giant water lilly as an
example of beams supporting a membrane during a lecture at the RSA, after the
Palace had been built. Post hoc, propter hoc. A snare and delusion in
biomimetics history!
