'University Scholarships'
Located in the 'City of Discovery', the University of Dundee was voted
Scottish University of the Year 2004/05 by the Sunday Times. To
reinforce its robust research culture, The Faculty of Arts and Social
Sciences invites applications from those who hold or expect to be
awarded either a First Class Honours or Masters Degree in an appropriate
subject for up to 10, three-year 'University Scholarships', tenable from
1st September 2005. These enable successful candidates to study for a
PhD, providing payment of tuition fees at the UK/EU rate (currently
£3000 per year) plus an annual grant of £8000, for which Scholars are
required to undertake up to a maximum of six hours per week of
undergraduate support teaching (e.g. tutorials) during the academic
year. Departments participating in this scheme and the subject areas in
which applications are invited are listed below:
Economics: Globalisation, national policies and the international
location of industry; corruption and development; contracts and
incentives for delivering health care
English: Modernism and twentieth century literature; romanticism;
American studies; women's writing
Geography: Sediment fingerprinting; environmental justice; floods and
climate change; migration and identity; debris-covered glaciers;
geographies of crime, justice and health.
History: Modern Britain; the 18th century; architectural and urban history
Languages: Applied linguistics, language testing and assessment
Philosophy: Continental philosophy; philosophy and art; science,
religion and value
Politics: European politics; international relations; sexual politics,
environmental politics and the politics of crime
Psychology: Any area of human experimental psychology in which the
department has expertise (cognitive, developmental, biological and
social psychology)
