Nottingham Trent University
Research Studentships

Fully funded postgraduate research studentships 2005
(Communication, Culture and Education)

Research at Nottingham Trent University

Research that shapes lives and society is central to the mission of Nottingham
Trent University and our Postgraduate Research Students have an important role
in furthering our ambitions. As a part of our forward strategy, we are pleased
to be able to offer a number of fully-funded studentships, reflecting our
commitment to building a sustainable academic community. We see research
degrees as offering candidates the opportunity to develop the high level
skills, networks and know-how to build successful careers in a knowledge-driven
economy. We provide effective training and support, with strong collaborative
links to business, public services and external academic networks. We recognise
that research degree candidates make an upfront commitment for a lengthy period
of time, drawing on their motivation and talent, and are happy to offer the
best applicants in our priority research areas a reciprocal commitment through
these studentships.

The competition for studentships is open to appropriately qualified candidates
who have, or expect to receive a first or upper second class honours degree, or
equivalent qualification. The studentships are available for MPhil/PhD level
research across the University’s range of research activities. The studentships
will cover tuition fees at the UK/EU rate and provide a maintenance stipend of
£12,000 per annum for up to three years commencing October 2005, or as soon as
possible thereafter.

Research in the College of Communication, Culture and Education

The College supports postgraduate students, offering a growing range of
programmes of study. Students in both of the schools that comprise the College
participate in a range of research degree programmes. Postgraduate students are
part of a dynamic community and have access to a dedicated building on the
Clifton Campus offering common rooms and quiet study rooms. The College has
research opportunities for MPhil and PhD degrees. We offer a multi-disciplinary
research culture with a thriving postgraduate community and well-established
staff/student research seminars, a research methods training programme, reading
groups and thesis writing groups. A number of the staff have international
reputations in their field of research and a range of scholarly journals and
book series are produced in the College. Both Schools welcome research
students. They become part of our academic community, bringing a wealth of
experience and knowledge with them. The students are encouraged and helped to
form a mutually supportive and friendly critical community. Research areas
within the two Schools that make up the College are listed below.
