1. ACE Centre-North (Tel: 01457 829444, http://www.ace-north.org.uk/) run two assistive technology-related modules which are accredited by Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU). They are an 'Assistive Technology Module' and an 'Alternative & Augmentative Communication (AAC) Module'. I am enrolled on the AAC Module and can thoroughly recommend it. ACE Centre-North and ACE Centre-South (http://www.ace-centre.org.uk/acemain.asp) are currently writing two further accredited modules for 'Recording' and 'Access' respectively, which will both be available from "September 2006" onwards. A potential route to gaining a Masters level qualification relating to assistive technology is being discussed with MMU.
2. King's College London runs an MSc in Assistive Technology: http://www.kcl.ac.uk/depsta/kcsmd/mep/core/mscinatnew/core_mscinat1.htm
3. The University of Birmingham (School of Education) run a range of qualifications relating to 'Inclusion and Special Education': http://www.education.bham.ac.uk/programmes/pgrad/cpd/profiles/speced/default.htm . I passed the 'FE & Rehab Services for Visual Impairment' course in 2003, but the assistive technology unit was only one part of a core module.
- Dis-Forum (http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/DIS-FORUM.html) had a discussion earlier this year relating to 'Training for the Trainer': http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/webadmin?A2=ind0502&L=DIS-FORUM&P=R367&I=-3

Subject: AT Training and Professional Qualifications
Dear All,
I'm doing some support work for the AT Forum on education and training for people who work in AT. I was wondering if people could let me know of any courses they are aware of. I'm thinking more of formal training rather than DLF or AbilityNet courses, as an example, but they too have a lot of relevance for people who work in AT who want to refresh or increase their knowledge and skills.
Hope you can help.
Cheers,
Aidan.
