The Morpeth and Melton Park (Gosforth) offices of Northumberland County
Archives Service will close from Monday 5 September 2005 to allow
preparatory work in advance of our move to new accommodation at Woodhorn.
Both offices will remain closed until we re-open at Woodhorn in Autumn
2006. We will be unable to deal with general public enquiries but will
continue to deal with enquiries that have a statutory basis throughout the
period of closure. Access to searchrooms will be by appointment only and
will be available only to those researchers whose research has a statutory
basis. We will continue to accept records on deposit. The Berwick-upon-
Tweed Record office will remain open throughout this period.
To lessen the impact of closure upon our users microfilm copies of parish
and non-conformist registers currently held at Morpeth Records Centre will
be transferred to Morpeth Library and will be available to view there from
12 September 2005. The Library holds a variety of family history sources
and the microfilms complement existing holdings. It is essential that users
reserve a microfilm reader in advance of visiting Morpeth Library. This can
be arranged by telephone (01670 534514). Further details of these
arrangements can be found on the Northumberland Libraries website:
