Access to Archives (A2A)
Recording the past, present and future
The National Archives have 170 kilometres of records documenting daily life
in Britain from Domesday Book to the present day... and they are growing by
the minute. This vast store of knowledge from the past helps to shape our
future. It is a living repository of information that we make accessible to
everyone from professional researchers to the general public.
Regional Liaison Co-ordinator
Access to Archives (A2A) Programme
Fixed-term Appointment until the end of March 2007, with the possibility of
extension or permanence.
£26,482 - £32,295 pa Based in Kew
The objective of the Access to Archives (A2A) Programme is to maintain and
develop the virtual archives catalogue of material of national and regional
significance as part of the UK archives network found on the World Wide Web
at http://www.a2a.org.uk/
You will work with local record offices and other organisations to ensure
the further success of A2A and a continuing ?ow of project bids for
submission to grant awarding bodies. You will also provide advice to the
Central Team, and liaison and advice to archival organisations and record
offices, which will involve a reasonable amount of travelling within
England.
You must have a Postgraduate Archival Qualification and knowledge of
relevant standards, including EAD and ISAD(G), as well as considerable
experience of cataloguing in an automated environment. In addition to an
awareness of the process of digitization in the UK and a familiarity with
community archive projects, you will also have excellent negotiation and
presentation skills.
