Dear Susan,
The material of the first picture seems to remind me of comparable remains I
found at Late Antique Sagalassos.
In a first phase they were thought of as plant material, but later, animal
bone fragments were suggested.
The second picture indeed seems to point in the direction of inner parts of
walnut shells.

Subject: New World id help
Dear All,
I have posted some images of items I'm having trouble identifying. They
are all carbonized items from a Late Archaic site in KY. The second one is
so dense that the internal structure is practically impossible to see. For
2 and 3, there are views of both sides of the items. I think the third one
may be thin inner nutshell fragments, but am not sure. I would be grateful
for any suggstions or pointers, since I am new to New World material.
