SPECIAL Newsletter
1995-2005
The istituto per l'Europa centro-orientale e balcanica - europe and the balkans international network
celebrates Ten YEARS OF NETWORKING
AND
INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION
and wishes YOU Season's greetings and a Happy new year!!!
Letter from the Director
The 21st December of ten years ago, scholars from different European and American Universities founded the Istituto per l'Europa Centro-Orientale e Balcanica - Europe and the Balkans International Network in a notary house in Bologna. The idea that inspired us was to create a coordinating body for an international and thick Network of experts with a keen interest in the Balkans and Central-Eastern Europe. Today our Institute is proud to celebrate ten years of life and takes pleasure in thanking all those who have cooperated on its activities and shown interest in its initiatives. So far we have spread our area of activities in Italy and abroad and established relations with several Institutions and International Organizations: nowadays our Network can thus rely on a unique political, economic and social group of individuals and institutes that provide it with high quality linguistic-cultural legal-economic and politico-diplomatic information, research and training on Central Eastern and Balkan Europe.
For these reasons we decided to devote the year 2006 to the celebration of our Ten Years of History. The first opportunity will be the International Conference "Regional Cooperation, Peace-Enforcement and the Role of the Treaties in the Balkans" that will take place on 20th and 21st January in Forlì (Italy). You all are invited to participate in this two-day conference that will gather prominent personalities of the academic, political and institutional world coming from several different countries.
On this occasion we wish to remember five prominent personalities, five friends, who over the years have generously contributed to the success of the Institute and the Network, but who have, sadly, already departed:
Pavel Campeanu
Ernest Gellner
Renzo Imbeni
Dennison Rusinow
Alessandro Skuk
In the end we want to thank all the partners of the Network for their commitment, the precious ideas and the excellent work.
Counting on your precious support, we will continue to work in the field of international cooperation, research and education with growing commitment, like in the previous ten years, and the same enthusiasm will continue to inspire our future initiatives.
Season's Greetings,
Yours Faithfully
Prof. Stefano Bianchini
Director of the Istituto per l'Europa Centro-Orientale e Balcanica - Europe and the Balkans International Network
