DAY COLLOQUIUM FOR POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH
STUDENTS IN POSTCOLONIAL LITERATURES:
A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO PRESENT YOUR WORK IN PROGRESS
Looking for feedback on your thesis topic? Come give a paper at the
colloquium for MPhil and PhD students, which will take place on
Friday 25th November 2005. The colloquium will begin with a seminar led by
Dr Sharmila Sen of Harvard University entitled
"Consuming Borders." The advance reading for this discussion will be
available from the AHRBLIT Office, Room 363. Dr Sen's seminar
will be followed by 20 minute presentations by selected students.
Sharmila Sen is assistant professor of English at Harvard, specializing in
postcolonial anglophone literatures from Africa, the
Caribbean, and South Asia. She has published on francophone African novels,
contemporary Caribbean fiction, language politics in
South Asian anglophone texts, and popular Bombay cinema. She is currently
working on an interdisciplinary project on border cultures
in South Asia and its diasporas.
If you would like to speak at the workshop, please submit a 300-500 word
abstract of your proposed paper to Dr Amina Yaqin,
[log in to unmask] by 5pm on FRIDAY 18th NOVEMBER. The selection panel welcomes
proposals from those working in national or comparative
literatures, film studies, and related fields.
Students not giving papers are also invited to attend the seminar and
