Kieran McEvoy is Professor of Law and Transitional Justice and Head of Research at the School of Law , Queens University Belfast. He is also Chairperson of CAJ (the Committee on the Administration of Justice), and a member of the Executive Committee of NIACRO and the Social Justice Committee of the Community Foundation. In 2001 he chaired the Human Rights Commission Criminal Justice Working Group on a Bill of Rights for Northern Ireland . He is currently involved in a range of research projects on topics including transitional justice, restorative justice, international criminal justice, conflict resolution, prisoner reintegration, and an international comparative study of how the judiciary and legal profession respond to the transition to a human rights culture.
Recent publications include: " Resistance, Transition and Exclusion: Politically Motivated Ex-Prisoners and Conflict Transformation in Northern Ireland " (2004) Political Violence and Terrorism (with Pete Shirlow and Karen McElrath); "The Dead the Law and the Politics of the Past" (with Heather Conway) (2004) Journal of Law and Society, Criminology, Conflict Resolution and Restorative Justice (2003) (co- editor with Tim Newburn and author of chps 1 & 3) (2003) Palgrave; and "Beyond the Metaphor: Political Violence, Human Rights and 'New' Peacemaking Criminology" (2003) Theoretical Criminology.
