for applications is 9 January 2006 Proposals are invited for between 2

sponsored jointly by French Ministry of Higher Education and

Seminars First consultation seminar: 9 November 2005 The AHRC
will be
conducting this Review through its ICT in Arts and Humanities
Research
Programme in the second half of calendar 2006. In the period leading
up to the Review we will carry out a range of knowledge-gathering
activities, including a series of consultation seminars in different
U.K. locations. The first of these will be hosted by the Humanities
Research Institute at the University of Sheffield, and held on the
morning of 9 November 2005. It is open to all interested parties. This
event will take place despite the cancellation of the associated
British Academy seminar on e-Resources in the afternoon. Read

Research Workshops Museums and Galleries
Research Workshops - e-Science
The deadline for both schemes is Thursday 12 January 2006
The Research Networks and Workshops scheme is designed to
encourage
and enable the discussion and development of ideas by researchers
across and between disciplines, either through establishing new
research networks or by running a series of workshops, seminars or
similar events. The strategic mode of the scheme identifies areas for
a ring-fenced call for bids. The first two areas selected, Museums and
Galleries, and e-Science, only allow applications for Research
Workshops. There is a fixed deadline, Thursday 12 January 2006, for
applications to submitted and you will be informed of the outcome of
your application in April 2006. Read more about the Research

for
proposals The closing date for proposals is 15 December, 2005 The
AHRC, in collaboration with the Economic and Social Research
Council
(ESRC) and the Higher Education Funding Council for England
(HEFCE),
invite proposals for 5 year collaborative Centres under this new £22
million initiative. The overarching aim of this new initiative is to
create a world class cadre of researchers who have the language
skills
to undertake contextually informed research that will ultimately
enhance the UK's understanding of the following areas: the Arabic
speaking world, China, Japan, and Eastern Europe, including areas of
the former Soviet Union. All applications must be from researchers
based at institutions eligible for funding from either AHRC or ESRC.
It is anticipated that one or two Centres will be supported in each
area. Read more Research Councils Business Plan Competition
2005/06
The closing date for the competition is 31 December 2005 The
Business
Plan Competition is designed to help entrepreneurial researchers
from
across the UK find successful routes to market. Previous
competitions
have successfully helped to establish several new spin out
companies.
The competition is supported by Research Councils UK, which is the
partnership between the eight UK Research Councils. The
competition is
open to researchers based in UK Higher Education Institutions (HEI's)
or Public Sector Research Establishments (PSRE) from across the
whole
spectrum of academic research - from the arts and biosciences, to
environmental physical and social sciences to technology. Prizes of
up
to £25,000 will be awarded to the business plans judged to have the
best potential to help turn business ideas into reality. To
participate in the competition you need to submit a one-page outline
of your business idea until December 2005. Read more Arts and
