INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM OF BUDDHISM STUDIES IN LAST
100 YEARS
Buddhist culture has very distant sources and profound
contexts, which is not only an essential part of
Chinese traditional culture but also a great fruit of
humanist spiritual civilization. The study of
Buddhism, however, started from the beginning of the
last century and flourished into a systemic rational
discipline from then on.
In order to review and outline the successful
experiences of Buddhist studies in the last one
hundred years, the Philosophy School of Wuhan
University, with kind help from the Fo Guang Shan
Foundation for Buddhist Culture & Education and the
Local Government of Guangshan County, has decided to
convene an International Symposium of Buddhism Studies
in the Last 100 Years at Wuhan University next autumn.
We hope to congregate the people of insight to have a
meaningful discussion, so as to give historical
summary of the productions of early founders and smart
judgments on the contributions and investigations of
contemporary scholars. This symposium will carry
forward the cause of the older generation and break
new ground, which can promote the prosperity of the
new culture in the new period.
