The World Bank's Talent Search & Partnerships Group is completing an
international search to identify suitable candidates for the following
Washington-based position:
SENIOR EDUCATION SPECIALIST
Human Development Group, Africa Region
The Human Development Group in the Africa Region (AFTHD) has been
working
with African countries to help them develop and implement the best
strategies and options for the development of their education systems.
This work has been done essentially through lending operations,
supervision of the existing portfolio, preparation of analytical work,
and
delivery of policy advice and technical assistance. At the same time,
several
sub-regional initiatives have been launched to deepen knowledge-base
on
education among African countries and share experiences. Although
African
Lusophone countries have been involved in some of these initiatives,
their
language, cultural and institutional particularity has hindered them
from
taking full advantage of the resulting processes and products.
There are five Lusophone African countries (Angola, Cape Verde,
Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and Sao Tome & Principe) that share
similarities
in language, culture and institutions. These countries face serious
challenges in the development of their education systems. With the
notable
exception of Cape Verde, they are all off-track towards achieving the
Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) of Universal Primary Completion by
2015.
We would be grateful for recommendations you may have on qualified
candidates that you believe we should inform. I am sure your network
of
