As the convenor of the ASA 2005 on Cosmopolitanism and Anthropology, I am
writing to invite anthropologists who would like to convene a two/three hour
parallel session to put in a bid. Information on the conference and the
provisional list of keynote and plenary speakers and sessions can be found on
the ASA website. So far we have the following parallel sessions confirmed:
Cosmopolitan Cities – John Eade
Cosmopolitanism and Tourism – Alison Phipps
Cosmopolitanism and Popular Culture – Sara Cohen
Cosmopolitanism and Museums – Ian Fairweather
Cosmopolitanism and Development – David Mosse
Interpretive communities – Andrew Smith
Environmental Cosmopolitans – Ben Campbell
Material Culture and Cosmopolitanism – Emma Tarlo
Youth and Cosmopolitanism – Mattia Fumanti
The Indian Ocean – Helene Basu
Religious and Moral Frameworks for Cosmopolitan Relations – Keith Hart and
Huon Wardle
Topics are obviously completely open, but I thought it would be good to have
sessions on the following themes if anyone is interested in organising such a
session:
Cosmopolitan Subjectivities
Sport and Cosmopolitanism
Elites and Cosmopolitanism
Global governmentality/Peace
Science
Diaspora
It would be great to have lots of young people participating in the
conference.
Best wishes,
Pnina Werbner
