Announcement of Two Faculty Positions
Beginning Fall 2006 or when filled
Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in Culture, Performance, and Globalization
Position Description
The Department of World Arts and Cultures at UCLA invites applications from scholars and/or artists for two open-rank positions focused on culture, performance, and globalization. The applicants' artistic or scholarly research might focus on the migration of aesthetic practices; borders and border crossing; citizenship and immigration; new approaches to ethnographic inquiry and research methods; or new approaches to choreography/performance, with the intention of extending, illuminating, or critiquing theories and practices of globalization.
Responsibilities of the positions include active pursuit of a program of research, publication, and/or creative work; graduate and undergraduate teaching and advising; and service to the home unit. Successful candidates will be expected to contribute energetically to the interdisciplinary and intercultural theoretical dialogues that define the intellectual vitality of the Department of World Arts and Cultures. One candidate may also be invited to accept a split appointment with UCLA's International Institute.
Qualifications
Ph.D., M.F.A., or other terminal degree preferred. We especially invite applications from candidates who are interested in connecting with fields and disciplines outside their own, and who are strongly committed to scholarly or artistic research. Theoretical and geographical interests are open, though candidates whose international engagements include Mexico, Latin America, the Black Atlantic, Asia, the Islamic world, and the borders between, are strongly encouraged to apply. International experience and commitments are essential.
Rank/Salary
Level of appointment and salary will be determined by the candidates' qualifications and professional experience.
Application
Applicants must apply online at www.wac.ucla.edu. Requirements include a CV; 150-250-word narrative bio and a statement providing context for the applicant's research and teaching interests; sample publication and/or documentation of creative work; and email addresses for three references. Hard copies of supplemental materials that cannot be uploaded should be sent directly to:
