African Politics
The Department of Political Science and the Center for African Studies at
the University
of Florida invite applications for a tenure track position at the rank of
Assistant Professor,
beginning Fall 2006. The position has been authorized at the assistant
professor level, but
outstanding candidates could be considered at the associate level.The
appointment will be
made jointly between the Department and the Center, with the tenure and
promotion
home in the Department of Political Science. Candidates should have a broad
training in
political science with a strong regional specialization and field work
experience in Africa.
Substantive interests may include but need not be restricted to political
economy of the
state and development or democratization, including electoral studies.
We seek applicants with superior promise who combine rigorous scholarship
with
excellence in teaching. We remain open as to the methodological orientation
of the
applicant. In line with the University's increasing emphasis on diversity
and
internationalization, including a strong commitment to continue
strengthening African
studies on campus, the successful candidate will contribute to a broad range
of
undergraduate and graduate courses and seminars and to a growing
interdisciplinary
program focusing on African studies.
Candidates should have their Ph.D. in hand or near completion at the time
of hiring. All
candidates should submit a current curriculum vitae, statements of research
and teaching
interests, graduate transcript, three letters of recommendation, and a
sample of written
