http://web.cortland.edu/wagadu/
guest edited by Dr. Zdenka Kalnicka, Ostrava University
Deadline for submissions: May 31, 2005
For Wagadu’s Fall 2005 issue, we invite contributions dealing with different
aspects of the connection between water and women. In particular, we are
interested in papers discussing this relationship from mythological,
religious, philosophical, psychoanalytical, artistic, economical and
political points of view, as well as addressing the crucial ecological
importance of water from the global perspective.
Possible topics:
- How the mythological stories from different culturesconnect women and
water?
- Can we find any philosophical arguments for thatrelationship in the
history of philosophy? How do these theoretical argumentsinfluence the real
lives of women?
- What do the artistic representations of the women/waterconnection focus
on? How do the artworks from different cultural backgroundsand historical
periods differ in their visions and associations of women/waterarchetype?
(women/water as symbol of life, death, seduction etc.).
- Are there any special rituals and religious practicesin different
world religions connecting women and water?
- How are women in different places affected by waterin its many forms,
especially with respect to division of gender roles andduties in households,
farm work, health, environment, rituals, religiouslife, political actions?
- What are the economical and political consequences ofthe shortage of
water and of the access to water supply in different cultures? What are the
global actions undertaken in respect to environmental problemsof water
pollution, and how do women's concerns figure in these initiatives?
- What do we need to change in our theoretical accountof water and women
and our attitude toward them in everyday life? What theoreticaland practical
frameworks could be envisioned and used to counter the devastatingactions of
industrial companies and the tendency of states to neglect theglobal
necessity to protect fresh water on earth?
