The Department of Genetic Epidemiology of the Faculty of Medicine and
University Hospital, Georg-August-University Goettingen, is offering the
position of:
Statistician / Epidemiologist (EU-funded Marie-Curie early-stage researcher)
for genetic epidemiological research.
The duration of this EU -funded position is 36 months.
PROJECT: BIOINFORMATICS and STATISTICS including genetic epidemiology,
biostatistics for the TRANSNET Project: "Identification of genomic and
biological markers as predictive/diagnostic/therapeutic tools for use in
allogeneic stem cell transplantation: Translational research towards
individualised patient medicine". In addition to the scientific aim obvious
from the project’s title, a unique training programme in the genomics and
immunobiology of transplantation will be developed in the project. The
successful candidate will participate in study planning, the conduct, and
analysis of TRANSNET throughout the network’s genetic epidemiology,
biostatistics, and bioinformatics platform.
The MAIN METHODOLOGICAL FOCUS resulting in a Ph.D. thesis topic in the field
of applied statistics will be on risk modelling and survival analysis in the
context of TRANSNET. It is anticipated that the early-stage researcher will
participate in the international Ph.D. programme (in English) “Applied
Statistics and Empirical Methods” at the University of Goettingen, the
University of the famous statistician Gauss. For more information and
prerequisites for admission please refer to the website
http://www.stochastik.math.uni-goettingen.de/zfs/. In addition to this work
in survival analysis, positions with research in longitudinal studies and
haplotype analysis in the field of genetic epidemiology are also available
from other funding resources. The position requires travelling to several
partners and mainly to the coordinators in Newcastle, UK.
Prerequisites for the position are a master’s degree in statistics,
biostatistics, mathematics, or a master’s degree in epidemiology, public
health, medicine, or a similar discipline with very sound statistical
knowledge equivalent to that of a mathematics programme, advanced knowledge
in a leading statistical software package for statisticians (SAS, Splus) and
fluency in English. Prior knowledge in the field of genetic epidemiology as
well as fluency in German is an advantage, but not a prerequisite. Only
candidates fulfilling the Marie-Curie requirements and conditions for
early-stage researchers will be considered for the TRANSNET position.
(Please refer to the EU-Marie-Curie website for details.)
The University of Goettingen aims to increase the proportion of female
scientific staff employed and thus particularly invites applications from
women. In the case of similar qualifications, women will be considered on
preferential terms within the framework of the legal possibilities.
Preference will also be given to applications from disabled persons in the
case of equal aptitude.
Applications in writing, including covering letter, curriculum vitae and
other materials of interest are to be sent to:
Re-posting with corrected and complete subject line:

In addition to this, there are several other temporary contracts, ranging
from 1.5 to 3 years in length, for researchers in the field of statistics
and epidemiology in the Department. Positions on offer cover the
methodological development and supervision of genetic epidemiological
studies with longitudinal, survival, and haplotype data. Furthermore there
is a part-time position specifically for undergraduate and graduate teaching
as well as statistical consultation. Opportunities for part-time work and
participation in the Ph. D. course in "Applied Statistics and Empirical
Methods" are offered.

the Department of Genetic Epidemiology by e-mail at [log in to unmask] for
further information. Please do not send requests for information or
applications to my personal address, as I will not be able to handle them.
