The current explosion of information on how genetic factors affect disease
means there is a crucial need to provide syntheses of the emerging evidence
to inform research priorities and NHS policy. We need an epidemiologist to
join our team working on applied and methodological research in this
exciting area. Working in a truly multidisciplinary environment on a
collaborative project with local company Linguamatics, you will be housed
partly at the Public Health Genetics Unit within the Cambridge Centre for
Genetic Epidemiology, and partly at Linguamatics. You will also have close
links with academic colleagues working in the University of Cambridge, the
MRC Biostatistics Unit and other associate organisations.
You will need a degree or professional qualification in epidemiology,
genetics or a closely related discipline. Your work will focus on
identifying and interrogating sources of evidence on gene-disease
associations for inclusion in systematic reviews, making use of natural
language processing technology to extract and organise the information. As
well as epidemiological knowledge and the desire to work on novel methods
for research synthesis, you will need excellent writing and communication
skills to contribute to our active knowledge transfer programme.
We offer flexible working, a great working environment and a range of
employee benefits.
