I am a medical statistician and have just submitted a D.Phil. thesis to
the University of Oxford on the latent structure of eating disorders.
The main statistical method used is Meehl's taxometric method. I have a
clinical examiner but am currently trying to find a suitable statistical
examiner. The problem is that most research using Meehl's taxometric
method is undertaken in the US. I wondered whether anyone could
recommend a suitable person within the UK? I would be very grateful for
any suggestions. The method is not difficult to pick up and might be of
interest to someone with classification interests.
Meehl's taxometric method is a novel technique designed to assess the
latent structure of a construct solely from the distributions of its
manifest (or observable) indicators. The method is based on expected
associations between indicators which, when presented graphically in
terms of plots, should take on a certain shape (typically convex) if the
latent structure is taxonic and another (either flat or concave) if it
is dimensional. Importantly, the interpretation of the results of this
method does not rest on P-values but on the consistency of results
across and within procedures.
With many thanks,
