Job vacancies at the The George Institute for International Health,
Sydney, Australia
The George Institute for International Health employs over 100
researchers, working on clinical trials and observational studies, often
on a large scale, and several meta-analyses. Major subject areas include
cardiovascular disease, cancer, road traffic accidents, and trauma care.
Due to expansion of activities and resignations from statisticians who
have moved to further their careers, there are currently 3 vacancies
within the Epidemiology and Biostatistics Division of the Institute.

programs, but also helping decide, with senior statisticians, which
approaches to analysis are appropriately tackled by particular software.

their use of statistical, and other, software. A key role will be
maintenance, and regular interrogation, of the database for a clinical
trial involving over eleven thousand people who are observed repeatedly
over several years. Skills required are intimate knowledge of SAS and
Excel and a working knowledge of STATA. Expertise in other statistical
packages would be an advantage. An undergraduate degree in Statistics,
or an allied subject, is necessary. AUD$72K
2. Research Fellow in Biostatistics. This post would primarily
support the researchers in the Injury Prevention and Neurological
Diseases and Ageing divisions within the George Institute. These
divisions run several projects which involve data collection and
analysis. The post holder would be expected to advise on study design
and undertake analyses under the supervision of senior statisticians. A
degree in Statistics, at least at the undergraduate level, is a
necessary pre-requisite, a Masters qualification in a relevant
discipline would be an advantage. AUD$94K
3. Research Fellow in Biostatistics. The person filling this post
would be expected to register for a PhD. The work will involve
day-to-day management of the database for the Asia Pacific Cohort
Studies Collaboration, an individual participant meta-analysis of more
than 600,000 people from 45 studies. As well as undertaking analyses of
these data as part of the PhD program, the post holder will be expected
to periodically update the database. Further, they will be expected to
run SAS programs to obtain results, and produce presentations of these
results on PowerPoint and otherwise, as required by other members of the
George Institute and the Collaboration. AUD$94K
