The Statistical Consulting Unit at the University of Limerick,Ireland
wil be offering a 2-day course from 24-25 August 2005 entitled 'An
introductory course in Pharmacokinetics' (course content below) which will
be taught
by a well-known Professor of Pharmacology from the UK. To maximise the
learning >experience course numbers are strictly limited to a maximum of
17. This
course should appeal to both clinicians and also statisticians within
the pharmaceutical industry (including those considering a career in this
industry). If you would be interested in this course then please get in
touch with Jean Saunders (address below) for more details plus a
registration form.
If you will be travelling from the UK (or elsewhere) and wish to stay in
the Limerick area then rooms are available at the South Court Hotel (where
the course will take place) at a special rate. Other hotels are available
in
the Limerick area and information sheets are available on request giving
hotelsas well as airlines flying to Shannon. (There are various cut-price
airlines that fly from the UK to Shannon). It would also be possible to fly
to
Dublin and travel by train/bus/car to Limerick. (Why not combine your trip
with
a sightseeing tour of Ireland?)
Course Content 'An introductory course in Pharmacokinetics'
This course gives an introduction to aspects of the fate of drugs in the
body in the context of drug discovery, development and therapeutic
usage. A workshop component will complement the theoretical considerations.
This
wil provide experience in solving numerical problems relating the time
course of drugs and their metabolites in the body to the development of rational
dosage guidelines.
At the end of the course, delegates should be able to describe and
distinguish the concepts of distribution, clearance and elimination, and
to calculate values of these, as well as looking at influences and effects
on pharmacokinetic parameters; to design dosage regimens from PK parameters
and to recognise time-dependent kinetics and the implications for dosing;
and to understand the reason for differences between the time courses of
drug
concentration and effect.
