Applications are invited for a 15-month Postdoctoral Research Associate in "Long-Range Persistence in Extreme Events" to be taken up at King's College London, June 2005, or as soon as possible thereafter. The appointment arises as a key component of one of six scientific workpackages on a large European Commission multi-national grant entitled "Extreme Events: Causes and Consequences".

SKILLS NEEDED: Candidates should have the qualifications appropriate for general time series analyses and the creation of synthetic time series, and will be applying these skills to persistence, heavy-tailed distributions, existing natural hazard time series, and development of risk metrics.
Applications are particularly encouraged from candidates with a background in applied statistics/applied mathematics, which they might have gained with a PhD in statistics, mathematics, physics, earth sciences, geography, etc.
THE RESEARCH GROUP AND UMBRELLA PROJECT: The successful candidate will join (a) the Environmental Monitoring and Modelling (EMM) Research Group which has an established record of internationally leading research in this field and (b) the team of 17 partners in nine countries, consisting of 75 scientists (+17 postdocs/postgrads).
