An EPSRC-funded three-year studentship is available at Essex. The
studentship is concerned with making sense of atmospheric data during
rainstorms. Measuring instruments include sensitive radars, rain gauges
and a variety of other instruments. Details are given at the following
website:

These data are collected because of their relevance to
telecommunications (loss of signal power), meteorology (weather
forecasting) and hydrology (rainfall measurement). This PhD could act as
a springboard for a job in, for example, OFCOM, the Met Office, or DEFRA.
