Epidemiologist/Health Services Researcher (Research Fellow) - part-time 21
hours per week
Centre for Paediatric Epidemiology and Biostatistics
Institute of Child Health and Great Ormond Street Hospital, UCL, London
Cost effectiveness analysis of prenatal screening for neonatal group B
streptococcal infection.
We are seeking an epidemiologist for a 12 month project funded by the UK
Health Technology Assessment programme on the cost effectiveness of
screening and other prenatal interventions for preventing group B
streptococcal (GBS) disease and other serious bacterial infections. The
post offers the opportunity to work on an important policy project of
national significance since the UK is one of few Western countries not to
operate universal prenatal screening for GBS infection.
The postholder will be responsible for undertaking systematic reviews, and
some primary data analysis and meta-analysis. S/he will work closely with a
team drawn from epidemiology, biostatistics, and health economics. The aims
of the project are to determine the cost effectiveness of a range of
alternative prevention strategies and the expected value of information
from further research.
Candidates should have a postgraduate qualification in Epidemiology or
Health Service Research and knowledge of public health issues would be
useful. The post will be based in London at the Institute of Child Health,
supervised by Ruth Gilbert, Reader in Clinical Epidemiology.
The post is on the RA1A scale £20,540 - £24,820 per annum pro rata,
depending on skills and experience, plus London Weighting of £2,330 per
annum, pro rata. The post is 0.6 FTE.
Alternatively the project may be of interest to a senior overseas
researcher with experience in a relevant field, who is interested in a
secondment or sabbatical to work on this topic. In this case a stipend
within the above salary range would be negotiable.
Interested candidates are encouraged to discuss the post informally with
Ruth Gilbert on 020 7905 2101 or email:
