The University seeks to make the following four appointments within this
rapidly expanding and internationally leading department which is
experiencing an exciting period of growth and development.
Post 1: Lecturer in Actuarial Statistics in association with St Hugh’s
College
Post 2: Lecturer in Statistical Genomics in association with Mansfield
College
Post 1: Applications are invited from candidates with research interests
in any branch of statistics, probability, actuarial science or financial
mathematics to take up this post from 1st October 2005, or from a
mutually agreed later date. The duties will include some teaching of
actuarial science (previous experience not essential) and giving
tutorials in probability and statistics. The Lecturership will be held
in conjunction with a Tutorial Fellowship at St Hugh’s College.
Post 2: Applications are invited from candidates with research interests
in the development and application of statistical methods to modern
genetics, genomics and allied areas to take up this post from 1st
October 2005, or from a mutually agreed later date. The duties will
include teaching in general statistics as well as in the field of the
candidate’s specialism and giving tutorials in probability and
statistics. The Lecturership will be held in conjunction with a Senior
Research Fellowship at Mansfield College.
The salary for each of the posts is on a scale up to £45,707 p.a.
Additional college allowances are available as set out in the further
particulars. Entitlement to sabbatical leave accrues at the rate of one
term’s leave for every six terms with normal duties.
Two Departmental Lecturerships: in Statistics (Post 1) and
Bioinformatics (Post 2)
Applications are invited for at least two new posts, one of which will
be in bioinformatics. The posts are designed to contribute to teaching
needs and to the department’s research. They will be for fixed terms of
up to four years. One term of sabbatical leave is normally available for
each six terms of qualifying service. The department seeks to appoint
excellent researchers with a keen interest in teaching. Appointments may
be from as early as 23rd May 2005, or from some mutually agreed later date.
Post 1: The appointee to the Lecturership in Statistics will be able to
teach mainstream statistics, both at undergraduate and at MSc levels.
Candidates should have research interests that blend well with one or
more of the research programmes already being carried out in the
department.
Post 2: The appointee to the Lecturership in Bioinformatics will be
expected to play a central role in the University’s part-time MSc in
Bioinformatics, in terms of both teaching and administration. Candidates
may have research interests in any area of bioinformatics (broadly
defined), but preference will be given to those whose interests
complement or strengthen existing research in the mathematical genetics
and bioinformatics group.
Salary scale: £19,460 to £25,699 p.a., with a discretionary range to
£31,544 p.a.
