We are seeking to recruit an independent statistician/quantitative
geneticist to work on the complex genetics of sugarcane.
Co-funded by the CRC for Sugar Industry Innovation through
Biotechnology, this project is to develop new approaches and
methodology to undertake genetic analysis and QTL detection. The
project outcomes will be the identification of DNA markers and
methodologies to improve performance of sugarcane breeding
programs. You will provide specialised statistical and quantitative
analysis in the areas of experimental design and data analysis and
interpretation. You will be part of a cross-disciplinary team,
including plant breeders and molecular geneticists co-located at CSIRO
Plant Industry.
You must have a strong statistical background with significant
experience solving complex biological problems. Previous experience
working with QTL analysis would be an advantage. Genetic analysis of
complex polyploids such as sugarcane is a challenging problem and you
will benefit from an extensive existing data collection and
knowledgeable biological collaborators. You must be outgoing and able
to interact effectively with statistical colleagues in other states.
You will be an honest and ethical researcher, meticulous in your
science, and creative in your ideas. You will a have a solid track
record and a history of publication in quality journals. This position
is suitable for a highly motivated individual looking to make an
impact in this fast moving and exciting area.
