> Considered by many as one of the most comprehensive international surveys ever undertaken, this OECD-funded 3-yearly Programme for International Study Assessment (PISA) study has focused on the knowledge and skills of 15-year olds in the principal industrialised countries.
>
> Following an RSS meeting in December 2003 on PISA 2000, we now have the opportunity to consider the focus on mathematical literacy in the PISA 2003 study both in terms of what the data can reliably tell us and the lessons participating countries have learned. The meeting will include a consideration of the OECD> '> s decision to exclude England/the UK from its international tables.
> Our confirmed speakers are:
> Professor Hugh Burkhardt, University of Nottingham Professor Harvey Goldstein, Institute of Education Mr Graham Thorpe,. Manager PISA Scotland, Scottish Council for Research in Education (SCRE) Centre, University of Glasgow Professor David Hopkins, Chief Adviser to the Secretary of State on School Standards, DfES Professor John Micklewright, University of Southampton
