There are often requests on this list for examples of bad statistics in the media. The Guardian on Aug 20 (page 16) had
a story about a man who won a French lottery twice with the same numbers. A lottery spokesman reportedly said
"the odds of the same seven-digit series cropping up twice were "virtually incalculable"". Surely this is an admission
of incompetence?
