JOB DESCRIPTION & PERSON SPECIFICATION

 

 

1.    JOB INFORMATION

 

 

        Post Title: Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Statistics 

        Grade:  L9 – SL15     

        Salary Range:  £ 23,640 – 29,478

        Mode:          Full time, fixed term to 31 July 2010 (a fractional
appointment    would be considered if requested).

2.    JOB DESCRIPTION                                  

 

.1      Purpose

To participate in the teaching activities of the CETL, particularly the
statistics advisory service, and providing support to dyslexic and
dyscalculic students. 

 

.2    Main Duties and Responsibilities

 

.1     To contribute to the general teaching activities of the CETL.

 

.2     To play a major role in the delivery of the statistics advisory
service for final year project and postgraduate students of non-mathematical
disciplines.

 

.3     To support the mathematical learning of dyslexic and dyscalculic
students.

 

.4     To keep abreast of developments in the teaching and learning of
mathematics and statistics.

 

.5     To engage in pedagogic research and other scholarly activities,
relating to innovative teaching and learning methods, leading to outputs
which are amenable to peer assessment.

 

.6     To participate in disseminating CETL findings through participation
in conferences and refereed publication.

 

.7     To bid for education development funding.

 

.8     To supervise PhD students if appropriate funding is secured.

 

.9     To contribute to the wider activities of the CETL as required by the
CETL Director.

 

  AND such other duties as are within the scope of the spirit of the job
purpose, the title of the post and its grading.

       ATTRIBUTES

 

           ESSENTIAL

     ADVANTAGEOUS


        Education/

        Qualifications

Degree in mathematics, statistics or mathematical sciences

Higher degree in statistics


       Experience

   (Paid and Unpaid)

Working knowledge of experimental design and multivariate analysis

Teaching mathematics and/or statistics to undergraduates on non-mathematical
courses

 

Using innovative teaching methods and/or new technology to support learning.

Knowledge of a range of pre-university mathematics qualifications



Research/Publications


Special Interests

An interest in the use of new technology in teaching and learning
mathematics and statistics

 

Peer reviewed publications

Experience of bidding for external funding


  Job-related skills/

        Aptitudes

Organisational skills

Time Management

Ability to work on own initiative

Excellent IT skills

 

Experience of working with dyslexic and/or dyscalculic students
