Irish Statistical Association workshop on
League Tables and Performance Monitoring in Education and Health
One day meeting, Friday 18th March 2005, Trinity College, Dublin
Outline:
"Governments increasingly use quantitative information to monitor the performance of key agencies in education and health. In some countries this has led to public 'league tables' for schools and hospitals with an implication that they improve consumer choice and resource allocation. Unfortunately, the basis on which such tables are constructed is often unsatisfactory from a statistical point of view. It can lead to inferences that are sometimes unhelpful and potentially misleading to users of the information. This workshop will explore the methodological and practical issues involved and should appeal to both statisticians as well as professionals in education and health with an interest in these issues."
Speakers include:
Sheila M. Bird (MRC Biostatistics Unit, Cambridge & Strathclyde University),
Nicholas T. Longford (SNTL),
Nick Sofroniou (Educational Research Centre, Dublin)
Registration Fees: ISA members - ˆ 50 ; non-ISA members - ˆ 65 ; Students - ˆ 25
