Hello Lynzie
Here at the University of Glamorgan the students are required to place
their ID cards, face up, in the top right hand corner of their desks so
that they are clearly visible to the patrolling invigilators. We also
give the invigilators a register to mark containing the students' names,
ID numbers and individual desk numbers. The students are sent individual
examination timetables which inform them of the dates, times, rooms and
desk number they must occupy.

Subject: Student ID in examinations
Dear colleagues
I recently attended a training session run by Netskills covering
plagiarism (which was excellent) and was surprised by the volume of
essay banks available on the Internet (100's). This has prompted me to
consider how robust our procedures are at dealing with and discouraging
cheating.
One aspect that I would appreciate some feedback on, is how other
institutions confirm the identity of their students in exam halls?
For instance, do you place blank slips on each desk for the student to
complete for collection by an invigilator or do you simply require the
student to place their University ID card on the desk for inspection?
If it was suspected that another person had sat the examination on
behalf of a particular student, what procedure would you employ to deal
with such a situation?
I welcome any comments that you have on this matter.
Best wishes,
Lynzie
