ODPM has launched a four month consultation on revisions to Part B of the
Building Regulations in England and Wales. The revisions are part of a
government proposal to introduce a new 'general Regulation' into Building
Regulations for non-dwellings that requires sufficient information to be
provided for building users to be able to operate and maintain new buildings
in safety. This new requirement would need to be fulfilled before a
completion certificate could be issued. The ODPM argues that the need for
such a system is a response to the growing use of building designs that rely
on fire safety management systems.
