Hi John
A solution that was used for the ferries taking people along the Thames to
the Millennium Dome used a V shaped locking mechanism that fitted the boats
being used. This was on a floating pontoon that connected to the main land
using a bridge that adjusted to the tide. I have attached a couple of photos
of the locking mechanism.
Regards
Marcus

Subject: Re: [ACCESSIBUILT] [SPAM?]: Slip Ways for Boarding Boats
John,
We have just started a project looking at improved access to ferry
slipways on the Tamar river, in Devon. We haven't come up with any
solutions yet, but one of the big problems seems to be slippery mud and
silt being deposited on the slipway at high tide. I am convinced that
in tidal reaches of rivers the answer is in the design of boat rather
than the slipway, perhaps some sort of landing craft, that can drive up
the slipway to firm, dry land?
