		Hi

The Highways Act 1980 Section 152 (1) "Powers as to Removal
of Projections
		from Buildings" states.......

A competent authority may by notice to the
occupier of any building require him to remove or alter any
porch, shed, projecting window, step, cellar, cellar door,
cellar window, sign, signpost, sign iron, showboard, window,
shutter, wall,
gate, fence or other obstruction or projection
which has been erected or placed against or in front of the
building and is an obstruction to safe or convenient passage
		along a street.

Further parts (2) to (8)elaborate on action that might be
taken.

		Hi Dave and Elaine,

Thanks for your suggested solutions. Problem with guidance
is that people
choose to ignore it unless they are community minded -
possibly a cynical
view?. The Police Act 1830? I suppose it is still active
as I have a vague
recollection that it is this Act that deals with vehicles
not driving on
pavements - or something like that.

As always your help is much appreciated.

		Regards.

Canopies

				Hi John
it comes under the Police Act of the 1830'
something which
		require all
projections in a street to provide a 2100 mm
clearance.
Fig 8 in BS8300 is probably the best answer.
If not I'd suggest stair overhangs or window
projections as
		an example
				fro Part M
