FE LEARNING WORKS:
RECAPTURING THE VISION FOR ADULT LEARNING
Tuesday 15 March 2005
Eighty percent of the students using FE colleges are adults. Adult education is not neat: adults wish to learn for many different reasons, and a civilized society facilitates, encourages and supports such learning whenever and wherever possible. Helena Kennedy's "Learning Works" remains a powerful endorsement of the potential of FE to provide opportunity and to change peoples' lives.
This conference seeks to consider the present imperatives of Government policy within the wider context of the creation of a learning society. Social equity and economic success must go hand in hand, and changing demographics add urgency to the need for long term strategies.
NIACE, as the national body for adult learning and learners, is delighted to have secured addresses from Mark Dawe of the Department of Education and Skills and from Donald Rae member of the Bureaucracy Review Group, for this important conference, which will also be addressed by senior figures from FE and LSC.There will be opportunity for participation and contribution in a strong programme of expert-led workshops.
The conference aims to explore the consequences of current policies in relation to adult learners, to identify the contribution of FE to the Learning and Skills agenda and priorities and to reaffirm the central importance of the creation of the self-perpetuating learning society.
This conference will be of interest to
Learning Skills Councils
FE Colleges
