I too first got to Australia in the 80s, & I sure did find some really
interesting, energetic poetry there, but not as cut off as you seem to
feel.
And in fact I laughed at your quote from 'Ern Malley', who has been
ensconced in the Tranter/Mead anthology, as in fact ol' Ern was nothing
but a factotum of quotations, & 'the duke of dark corners' line you
liked so much is from (trumpets please): Shakespeare.
But changed utterly, perhaps by context?
I'll talk about the Australian poets whose work I love (which certainly
include those on this list) some other time (actually I have).
